24 - Casting / 25 - Props and clothing

This is Tamzene. She will be the one lip sinking. We have used her because she is a very good singer  and will be able to lip sing well. Tamzene has spent a lot of time performing on stage whether singing or acting, so she is a natural at is. As she is used to this it will make it easier to film.

These are the clothes we will get our main actress Tamzene to wear in the video

These are the type of clothes that I will wear in the video

23 - Plan locations and take location shots.

This is where the ballroom dancing will happen. We have chosen this location because of the big windows, wooden floor boards and large area.

This is where the 'clubbing' and 'partying' will happen. The space will be cleared out and polished up.  We have chosen this area because it is open and can hold a decent amount of people.

This is where the couple will be walking to resemble a park. This is located on our school grounds. It is isolated and not many people will be around to resemble a quiet, peaceful area.

This is an example of a bedroom in which the two individuals will be 'upset' and 'raging'. We have chosen this location because it is their bedroom.

20 - Plan your story in 5 sections in a storyboard / 22 - Create a shotlist

These are 5 drawn sections in a story board that we will include in our film. Doing this gives us a visual idea of what we will include in the video so when we come to the days where we film it won't take so long to come up with different shots and knowing the way in which we film them.

In the storyboard above, this shows quick shots of the main actress in her house, upset. It shows different shots of her in different rooms doing different things. There is a long shot of her in her bedroom sitting on her bed eating food. The next is a close up of her crying, then a mid shot of her on the phone, the next a long shot of her on the sofa and then sitting on a chair.

In the storyboard above, we have the main actress in a house. In the first shot, it shows a long shot and birds eye view of her playing the piano whilst lip singing the words to 'Afterglow', the next is a mid shot of her singing, and then a close up of her hands playing the piano. The next three shots are of the actress and its a zooming shot going from a mid to close, to extreme close up shot.

The storyboard above is of the couple going for a dog walk in the woods. This scene doesn't include lip-singing. The first two shots are a long shot of them holding hands, then changing to an extreme close up of the hands together. The next is of the dogs face. The next two shots are a mid shot of them close to each other on a bench zooming out to a long shot of them.

The storyboard above shows the two protagonists dancing. They are dancing in different places and situations which changes every shot. They are doing different dances wearing different clothes, which is a slightly obscure array of shots.

The storyboard above is very similar to the first storyboard. But instead of the woman upset in her house(shown in the first one), it now shows the man upset in his room and sulking, in two mid shots. The man then gets angry and paces around the room and then punches the door in anger shown again in two mid shots. The last one is a mid shot of the actor looking at himself in the mirror.

19 - Brief Synopsis

Our two main characters will be a male and female, however the singing will be done another female. This female shall be telling a story about the couple. They will start by dancing in Gordonstoun House (School) and then moving on to the basement (representing club). A dance student will help choreograph our moves. Not only will the lyrics tell us a story, but the moves of the dances shall also, by the body movements and emotions.

Later on, matching with the lyrics, “ready for the afterglow”, we shall have some shots of them walking down next to the school lake. Throughout the song, we switch between our main singer, and the dancers. We will also imbed sparklers, glow sticks, lamp poles, and flashing lights to fit the title the song, ‘Afterglow’.

18 - Key Elements in our Film

Music video:
  • Timed lip-syncing
  • Well shot video (range of shots)
  • Sound editing
  • Different effects
  • A range of props

Things to Include:
  • A range of locations )
  • Editing to the beat
  • Range of effects
  • Lip Syncing
  • A story
  • Good filming and editing
  • Use of lights
Our music video should be attracting a very wide range of audience members due to the fact that our song is in the Pop genre and should be popular.

Andrew Goodwin's theory 'The Conventions of Music Videos'
Usually music videos are dictated by what type (genre) of song it is, or by who sings the song or who produce the song. For example, Lady Gaga is known for having very weird and alternative videos. They are categorized as 'Strange' mainly because of the costumes she wears. Her videos are recognized by the world of 'Pop' music worldwide. Her music videos are probably what made her so famous and got her fashion sense so globally known.

17 - Institutions that produce and distribute music videos

Production - Music Videos are often produced by the record companies, for example, Afterglow was produced by the producer "Wilkinson" but the vocals were sung and recorded by Becky Hill. It was released on the 13th of October, 2013. However, on some occasions, the production of a music video is done by a third party company. Some musicians decide to have their song produced by independent production companies. This will be done to keep the originality of their ideas.

Marketing - The labels that Afterglow by Wilkinson has are Ram records, Virgin EMI records and Hospital records which are big names especially Virgin. The way this was advertised was by it being and increasingly popular song and ended up on the top 40 most purchased songs for a little while. A channel on You tube called VEVO also advertised this on their channel so there was a lot of promotion for this and now currently has over 25 million views and still rising. iTunes also advertised this on their charts page.

Distribution - This is Wilkinson's (the artist of the song we are doing) Youtube page, this youtube page is distributed by 'Vevo'
You can get Vevo in the USA, Australia, Brazil, Canada, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, The Netherlands, New Zealand, Poland, Spain and the UK. You can access Vevo on the mobile web and every 'Apple' device and on 'Windows'. Vevo has over 50,000 videos available with google. According to the company profile its been ranked as the number one music platform on the web. On Vevo, they have music videos, original series, behind-the-scenes footage, live performances and interviews with artists.

16 - Attracting the Perfect Audience Member

The perfect audience member for my video would be someone that is outgoing and someone who follows recent trends. These people are perfect audience members as they are people who spread things such as our video through word of mouth and spreading it on social media. This will help promote our video.

The song 'Afterglow' is a dance/pop song. It was a song that was very popular in the UK charts when it first came out. People who keep up to date with recent popular music would be a good audience member as this song stayed in the charts for a while. The music video was slightly different to other dance/pop music videos as there is usually a lot of dancing and people partying, however in this video it told a story of two people and things they have shared and done, this would attract a slightly alternative group of people as the video is a bit different to most videos of this genre

15 - UK Tribes

From the www.uktribes.com website:
These are the tribes in the UK

I found that my audience member would be from the 'New Casual' tribe.

14 - Audience Research

I did a survey and asked students in my school how they choose their music, do the music videos make a difference, and what puts them off music videos?
